It’s embarrassing to admit, but I gave up yesterday. I didn’t sleep well (and that’s never a good start to my day.) I woke up with a sore throat (you know the kind you get right before you’re about to get sick.) I didn’t feel like working, like, at all. Of course, I had plenty to do.
I went for a walk. I thought maybe fresh air would help motivate me.
I sat down at the computer. I figured if I sat there, maybe I’d work.
After about an hour of sitting there, I realized productivity wasn’t going to come to me.
I switched gears.
If I can’t focus on “real” work, I do “fake” work.
Here’s what that looks like for me:
I grabbed the laundry, turned on an online course I needed to finish and started folding and learning. (Oh, I should mention, the course is about the next big “thing” I need to tackle in my business, a topic I’m totally green on. It’s always helpful for me to learn about the thing right before I go implement vs. months in advance.)
I moved onto the kitchen. I cleaned and learned.
I moved onto the bedrooms, I picked up and learned.
I went for another walk and learned.
And then the day was over, and the course I was watching was complete.
I got sh*t done when it comes to “real” work yesterday.
But, I didn’t “completely” throw in the towel. Do you see where I’m going with this?
But I exited the day feeling amazing. My “environment” is now conducive to work. The dishes are done. The bedrooms are clean. The laundry is folded and put away. (A clean space always helps my ADD brain focus.) I’m excited about the next “thing” I’m going to tackle in my business because after finishing the online course, I feel competent and confident in starting.
Can you imagine what it would feel like if you understood live events inside and out? That’s how amazing I feel right now about the thing I just learned in that course.
I know, some may say I wasted a day. I get it.
But here’s the thing. Today, I feel like I’m on fire. I’m laser-focused. I’m probably getting 10x the work I normally get done.
Sometimes we just need a little reset.
It’s about constant course correction.
What does course correction look like in your world?
